| General Description: | About the Team: The Philadelphia Liberty are proud to be part of the WPSL for the upcoming 2007 Season. With the demise of the Philadelphia Charge, this vibrant sporting city is crying out for a top level women's soccer team and the Liberty are confident they can be successful on and off the field. With local college, graduating HS , National and International players, once again the public of the Greater Philadelphia area can really be confident of supporting a community based club. About the Coaching: Wayne Grocott: Head Coach Wayne is the former Head Coach of the Ocean City Barons PDL team. Prior to taking this role he was also a former Head Coach of the Barons sister team the South Jersey Banshees. During their inaugural year of 2001, he guided them to the second spot and a place in the conference finals. Wayne has extensive coaching experience both in the United States and in England. Coaching various levels of soccer from Youth Academy to Professional. The North England native played semi-professional soccer for 14 years before taking up coaching full time in the United States. Wayne holds a USSF 'B' Coaching, NSCAA Advance National Diploma as well as the UEFA 'B' coaching license. In 2006 Wayne was the Head Coach of the Expansion Northampton Laurels Women's team of the (WPSL) Women's Premier Soccer League. During the Laurels inaugural season he guided the franchise to a second place finish in the Southern Division of the Eastern Conference and a berth in the WPSL playoffs. Phil Andrews: Asst & Goalkeeper Coach Phil was born on the island of Cyprus off the coast of Greece and grew up playing soccer in England, Germany, Singapore, and Italy. Played for several youth club teams in Germany as a child and was named first team all Italy while playing center fullback for the Vicenza Cougars in high school. Played in the Boston, Massachusetts indoor league in the mid 80's and for Miller Masters FC of the New Hampshire summer semi-pro league in college. In addition to his two years as Goal Keeper coach for the Philadelphia Pirates of the WPSL, Phil has served as keeper coach for several youth soccer organizations in South Jersey and South Eastern Pennsylvania and had worked with several of the areas top high school and college keepers. Phil has coaching certifications from the FA, NSCAA, and EPYSA, Including the NSCAA Level 1 and NSCAA Level 2 Goalkeeping Licenses. Angela Keelan: Asst. Coach Angela has been coaching for over 28 years in England & United States at all age levels Men's and Women's teams. Angela played for Liverpool Football Club in England, and when she came to the States in 1981 played for Newtown Square Blasters. At the age of 42 turned down playing for the Philadelphia Freedom Women's Team. At present Angela is a coach with West Chester United Soccer Club, PA. and has won State Cups with two WC teams, reached Regional Semi-finals, and won regional 1 league. Coaching experiences: Liverpool Football club, England Liverpool Soccer Club, PA (founder) Eastern University Head Coach PAGS Select Head Coach Scottish Euro Academy – Player Development Philadelphia Charge Youth Team (assistant coach) Delaware County Christian School Head Coach (started the girls program) WCUSC Predators 87/88 WCUSC Predators 93 Head Coach Steve Fraser: Goalkeeper Coach Steve is a goalkeeper coach for the EPYSA's Olympic Development Program (ODP) and PAGS Elite Player Development Program. Steve is also the assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at Conestoga High School for the girls varsity soccer team and is also head coach for two local youth teams, the TEYSA Charge U-14 girls and Lower Merion Cobras U-9 girls. Steve has coached at several professional youth academies in England and across Europe, including work with the Icelandic women's national team. Steve holds an NSCAA National Diploma aswell as the UEFA 'B' and English FA Goalkeeping 'A' Licenses in addition to licenses from the French and Dutch football federations. During the day, Steve runs soccer sessions for 3,4 and 5 year olds and is involved at 'grass-root' youth development with several clubs. Type of Players: Like most WPSL teams, the liberty are looking for top level high school,club and college players as well as post collegiate players who are looking to reclaim their competitive form. Local Colleges: In addition to the national based collegiate players the Philadelphia Liberty are also very fortunate to operate in the center of College Soccer Oasis with the likes of Villanova, La Salle, St. Josephs, Temple, Penn, Drexel, Cabrini, Philadelphia University, and Lehigh University just to name a few. In addition to the local college talent we are also fortunate to be able to draw from some of the countries top club teams as in FC Delco, Spirit United and West Chester United. |
